Watching Sunsets and Star Gazing in Ka'u

Photos by Jesse Tunison
Ka'u Star Gazing, an anual event of the Ka'u Coffee Festival, took place last night, May 20, on the grassy top of Makanau.

After watching a beautiful sunset over the open ocean and a nearly full moon, stargazers were given laser pointers and the use of a telescope to help them discover the mysteries of Ka'u's clear, dark skies.

John Cross, of Olson Trust, and formerly of C. Brewer (major sugar plantation owner in Ka'u) discussed the land's history and significance.
